Frances Kearney's images seem at first like spontaneous snapshots yet they are meticulously staged. Clothes, expressions and posture are all contrived for the photograph. She re-works the arrangement of a scene until a sense of stillness is achieved. The result is a subtle portrayal of everyday experiences and observations in the private domain. The figures convey a monumental and meditative quality, caught at a moment of personal reflection, perhaps waiting for something to happen. Ultimately, Kearney's works are about how we cope with our awareness of the passing of time.(2008-2009)
