Place of origin |
Narrow wooden table loom with cotton warp.
A length of wood with two metal wing nuts at the breast beam end. Just over half way along the length there are two blocks of wood, one on either side, forming feet and raising the loom so that it lies at an angle of about 15 degrees above the table. There is a narrow piece of wooden dowling joining the two blocks across the top and from this are tied the heddles. The warp continues over the far end of the loom, where there are two more wing nuts, and goes under the loom to the warp beam which is between the feet. There is half an inch of weft-faced plainweave with white cotton and several passes of finer green silk. A loop of faded purple cotton forms the cross in the warp.
