Porcelain dish with an hua ('secret design') of dragons round the sides, covered in a deep blue glaze. This colour of blue is commonly called 'Sacrificial blue' and is one of the noted monochrome types produced in the Xuande period and later imitated during the reign of the Yongzheng emperor (r.1723-35).

Physical description
Saucer shaped dish with gently rising sides. Porcelain, with very faint designs of dragons in white slip on the side of the interior, all covered by a deep, brilliant blue glaze. The base is white with a six character Xuande mark in a double ring in underglaze blue.

Object history
This dish was sent from China as a specimen of Jiqing (sacrificial blue), which was one of the noted Xuande monochromes. Jiqing is named among the Xuande wares imitated at the Imperial factory in the Yongzheng period.
