Pair of vases. Cloisonne enamel on copper, the rims brass, the plain parts gilt. Chinese; 17th century.

Trumpet-shaped above and below with central knop. Designs of ogre-masks, dragon strapwork, large leaf-panels and "Indian lotus" ornament, invarious colours on grounds of pale green and turquoise-blue. The colouring differs in the two pieces, the dark blue of M.172a becoming lavender in M.172.
