Dish, thrown from creamy buff coloured clay containing numerous large quartz-like particles. The footring is very wide and only shallowly turned. The off-white glaze covers the whole interior, and the exterior down to a little above the footring. From the line of the glaze edge it appears that the dish was dipped into the glaze bucket. The exterior has pinholing and is also marked by numerous small orange patches where the glaze has crawled. This seems to happen where the large quartz-like particles in the clay body appear on the surface. There are seven spur marks on the inside and the same sort of pinholing and glaze crawling as found on the exterior. The areas around the spur marks have been badly scratched through grinding. A thin line in underglaze iron delineates a central area, and the inner walls are decorated with seven loosely painted spiral motifs from which the name 'horse-eye' derives. The wide rim is also painted in underglaze iron.
