This type of 'lampwork is characteristic of glass production from Thuringia in eastern Germany. Canes or tubes of glass are melted and worked over a single flame. Glassworks in the area specialise in fancifully decorative items but it is also the centre for the production of glass tubes and phials used in laboratories.
