Jar of porcelain. Tall ovoid potiche with broad mouth and vertical rim slightly reinforced at the lip; low foot and shallow, concave unglazed base having in the centre a shallow circular recess with the mark 'da ming Jiajing nian zhi' written in underglaze blue. Painted in rich blue round the sides is a landscape with clouds and mountains in which on one side is a large seated figure of Shou Lao (God of Longevity) with two acolytes; with figures of other Daoist Immortals recognisable among whom are Zhongli Quan, Lu Dongbin, Li Tieguai, Han Xiangzi, and He Xiangu, as well as Hanshan and Shide, and some others. Round the foot is a ruyi-head border, and round the neck a fungus scroll.
