Circular box and lid, buff stoneware with olive-green glaze. Low straight-sided body with spreading foot-ring. Flanged rim to take the cover, which is straight-sided and flat topped. Three concentric rings impressed on the top. The base is glazed and shows four spur marks.

Physical description
Circular box and lid, buff stoneware with olive-green glaze. Low straight-sided body with spreading foot-ring. Flanged rim to take the cover, which is straight-sided and flat topped. Three concentric rings impressed on the top. The base is glazed and shows four spur marks.

Object history
C.30 to 36-1952 are types repeatedly excavated at Changsha (Hunan province) and manufactured at Yo-chou. Similar pieces were displayed and discussed at a lecture given to the Oriental Ceramic Society in Feb 1952 by Dr. Isaac Newton, entitled "1000 years of potting in Hunan province."
