Place of origin

Buff stoneware jar of globular form with a slightly flattened shoulder, small mouth with a shallow neck, and a flaring footrim. Around the neck were four double-strand loop handles of which only the fixtures remain. Around the base line of these is a pair of simple incised lines. A wavy 'piecrust' band of ornament is applied in relief around the central section of the body of the jar. The whole is covered with a finely crackled pale olive-brown glaze which stops beneath the applied decorative band but well above the footrim.
