Dish of porcelain, painted in underglaze cobalt blue. Deep foot-ring, convex sides. Inside, in a central medallion, an illegible but boldly painted Chinese inscription, surrounded by ruyi heads. Round the border, two bands of ornament resembling clothes-pegs. On the reverse, three conch-shell symbols with streamers. The blue is blackish and the surface massed by large pits in the glaze.

Historical context
The "clothes-peg" pattern is also sometimes found on Worcester porcelain of the Flight period, where it is presumably derived from Chinese pieces such as this.
