Salt cellar of porcelain, in the shape of a European silver trencher salt with eight-sided sloping base. Around the base are painted five sprays of flowers in underglaze blue. Inside the bowl are painted the arms of Ginkel, Earl of Athlone, in grey-black, pink and iron-red, with touches of blue and gilt. The rim bears an alternating fret and flower pattern in underglaze blue. The edge of the rim is gilded but badly rubbed.
