Oval dish of porcelain, painted en grisaille and gilt. With foliate rim, and unglazed base burnt red. In the well, two medallions depict a young and an old woman, and blind-fold Justice holds the scales between. In two panels on the rim, the verse: 'One day for Liberty the Briton fires. The Next he flames for Canning or for Squires', which refers to the notorious lawsuit over the alleged abduction of Elizabeth Canning by Mary Squires, about 1753. The two portraits are copied from contemporary engravings or prints.
