Bottle of porcelain. Ovoid in shape, with slender neck. Painted in overglaze enamels with a bugler and horn-blower in pale blue and yellow, reserved on a black ground. Above the gilt borders on the shoulder are Chinese emblems reserved on a gilt diaper. Another gilt diaper border appears below the mouth.

Object history
For two teacups and saucers and a bowl of this pattern, see C.1437 to 1439-1910. Apparently depicting Middle Eastern musicians, this design is known as 'Trumpeter's Service' and shows the taste for the "exotic East".
