Milk jug of pear shape with simple 'V' spout and 'C'-shaped handle; and low domed lid with pointed knob. Painted on either side with a Middle Eastern musician standing on a grassy ground, one wearing a yellow tunic and blowing a horn, the other in green with a trumpet, with borders of cresting above and below in gold, all these designs being reserved on a deep black ground which covers the rest of the vessel, except for similar gilt borders and scattered lozenge motifs on the lid.

Brief description
Milk jug and lid with decoration depicting Middle Eastern musicians, this design is known as the 'Trumpeter's Service' and shows 18th century interest in the "mysterious East", may possibly have been by the Dutch designer Cornelis Pronk (1691-1759); porcelain painted in overglaze enamels and gilt; China (Jingdezhen), Qing dynasty, ca. 1740

Painted on either side with a Middle Eastern musician standing on a grassy ground, one wearing a yellow tunic and blowing a horn, the other in green with a trumpet, with borders of cresting above and below in gold, all these designs being reserved on a deep black ground which covers the rest of the vessel, except for similar gilt borders and scattered lozenge motifs on the lid.
