Physical description | Costume design by Lucien Besche for Wheat (Mlle Paris) in Summer scene in Joseph Hansen's ballet The Seasons, Alhambra Theatre, 1886. Full length female figure wearing low-necked short ballet skirt painted in vertical yellow orange and pale brown stripes simulating wheat, trimmed with poppies, blue flowers, daisies and a small sickle; on the hair is a wreath of wheat, decorated with flowers and the loose hair at the back is entwined with flowers. Under the left arm is a large sheaf of flower-entwined wheat. Pen and ink and watercolour on card initialled by the designer |
