Dish
ca. 1690-1700 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Dish, one of a pair (with FE.79A-1970). Of saucer shape with rounded sides everted at the rim, which is foliated in ten lobes, and turns up at the lip; low-wedge-shaped foot. In the centre of the base is the mark of a firing spur; the base has sunk below the level of the foot so that the dish is unstable; gritty foot-ring.
The design is partly executed in purplish blue and completed in two tones of green, pale and deep red, yellow, greyish aubergine and black enamels, with gilding. In the centre is a broad design of growing chrysanthemum plants curving to the right, surrounded by a band with two phoenixes flying through variously-coloured clouds; and round the outside are three spares sprays of prunus in blue, red and gold only.
