Dish
1675-1700 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Dish of saucer shape, flat based, with rounded sides rising towards the rim; low rounded foot. On the base are the marks of four firing spurs. The glaze has a marked greenish tinge and is minutely crackled.
The design is prepared by a double circle in underglaze blue demarcating the border on the inside; further rings on the outside and base, and a border in blue of a sketchy tendril scroll. Executed in a typical palette of soft blue, turquoise green, yellow and red enamels with delicate black outlining are designs of a bird perched on a branch of flowering prunus growing by a rock in the centre, and of peonies and other plants growing by rocky ground, with a flying bird, twice repeated round the border.
