Vase and lid of porcelain, one of a set of a five piece garniture with two lidded vases and three beakers. Eight sided, with swelling body, narrow base, short neck, and domed-shaped lid. Round the body are four wavy shaped panels painted alternately with peonies and ears of corn, and two cranes among pine-trees; between them are flowers and scrolled leafy stems on a blue ground. Round the neck and foot are oblong panels containing floral ornament and scale-pattern. The lid is similarly decorated, surmounted by a figure of the mythical Korean lion (kara shishi).

Purchased from Miss H. M. Gulson (15 Park Hill Road, Haverstock Hall NW), accessioned in 1899. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
