Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Large vase with low, pear-shaped profile rising and inclining to a straight mouth with everted lip. Painted in detailed gongbi style with a landscape scene that runs right round the vase. Mountains, waterfalls and pines are delineated in black and green, pavilions in blue, yellow, green, red and black, and in the foreground is a crag with pavilion, blossom trees in pink, and small figures. All colours are applied over the glaze. At the back of the vase, the mountains merge in an area of mist. Here a hand-painted inscription in black reads: 'Huangshan ren zi bao yi jiu qi ba nian chu xia Dehu xie' (The forked waterfall at Huangshan, painted early spring 1978 by Dehu). The seal character 'Xu' in red follows. On the base is a four character sealmark in pink 'made at Jingdezhen'.
