ca. 1987 (dated)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Waisted jar with wide inturned lip and flat base. Derived from a simple "pickle jar" form, but probably owing some influence to the forms of Japanese tea ceramics. Glazed inside and out, with a circle of glaze in the middle of the unglazed base inscribed with the mark 'Gong Xunming, Jingdezhen'. Both the mark and the exterior decoration are painted in flowing grey-blue cobalt, which has precipitated in dark patches in many places. The decoration, painted in a free style, is of leaves, peaches or cherries on a lattice ground.
