STATUETTE of soapstone stained in imitation of dark green jade, representing a sage seated beneath rockwork. The base, of soapstone in its natural colour, is carved in the form of rocks. CHINESE. H. 7 in., W. 4 in. Transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology, Jermyn Street. 5522-1901. He is bearded and his hair is arranged in two knots at the top of the head; he wears a robe open in front.(pre 2005)

Transferred from the Museum of Practical Geology (Jermyn Street, London), accessioned in 1901. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
