Costume design for Four Red Hollihocks in the Flower ballet of "The Sleeping Beauty On Ice". The design depicts a full length female figure with arms outstretched. The figure wears a stylised costume representing a hollihock. The costume consists of a dark green bodice decorated with artifical red flowers at the hips and breast; and an asymmetrical red net skirt which is very short at the front and long at the back. The costume is completed with an elaborate head dress made up of green leaves, a tall red hollihock flower, and a high neck collar of artificial green leaves. Blue paint has been applied around the figure. Two fabric swatches have been stapled to the upper left hand corner.

Object history
This Costume design by Anthony Holland is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 1996. The design was executed for a production of the ice show "The Sleeping Beauty On Ice" at the Empire Pool, Wembley, December 16th, 1972. The show was directed and produced by Gerald Palmer, and choreographed by Reg Park. The music was adapted from Tchaikovsky's ballet "The Sleeping Beauty", and was orchestrated by Arthur Wilkinson, Roy Lowe, and Leslie Kerrigan. The book and lyrics were by Stanley Lloyd.

Historical significance: An example of late 20th century costume design for an Ice Show by a designer who worked extensivley in this specialised field.
