Gallery label
This type of 'lamp work' is characteristic of glass production from Thuringia in eastern Germany. Canes of glass are melted and worked over a single flame. Glassworks in the area specialise in fancifully decvorative items but it is also a centre for the production of glass tubes and phials used in laboratories.
