Physical description

Buddha seated in the padmasana (lotus position) on a waisted lotus throne and in the bhumisparsa mudra (earth witness attitude).A whisk, which would have been held by his left hand (now broken at the wrist) lies across his lap. His robe is shown covering his left shoulder with a lightly decorated edge (barely visible) hanging down the torso, while the right arm is left bare. His hair, the fillet and the unisha resemble a close fitting cap.

Descriptive line

Burmese teak lacquered and gilded Buddha. Konbaung Dynasty (1752-1885). Depicted seated on a waisted lotus throne in the padmasana bhumisparsa position. ca. before 1880.
