A rectangular tray with a gently curved and everted rim and indented corners. Wood covered in black lacquer imitating metal, decorated with autumn plants in green, silver and brown lacquer on the front right and a poem on the left in gold hiramaki-e (metal or coloured powder sprinkled on to a lacquer design before it has hardened so that it is in low relief), surrounded by a thin border of mother-of-pearl shell (purposely not continuous in places) on a background lighter than the surrounding area. On the back is an inscription in gold hiramaki-e.
