A square box and lid with bevelled edges and corners, with a design of autumn plants extending from the bottom side over to the top, as well as all other three sides in gold and silver hiramaki-e (low sprinkled picture) lacquer on a black lacquer ground with hirame gold flakes. The interior of the box and lid each depict a maple branch with autumnal red leaves in red and gold hiramaki-e on the same black ground as the exterior; the underside of the box depicts a deer standing and looking towards the bottom right in brown, gold, silver and red takamaki-e (high sprinkled picture) and hiramaki-elacquer on a black lacquer ground with hirame.
