Place of origin |
Cushion cover, rectangular in shape, in silk tapestry (kesi). On a yellow silk ground is woven a multi-coloured design of stylized lotuses forming a scroll border around the edge with separate sprays filling the rest of the area. There is an oval central panel of blue scrolling with a large lotus in the centre. Between the flowers and foliage are bats. Dividing the border from the central area is a narrower border of gold threads couched down side by side. The edges of the cover are bound with blue silk, and another wider band of blue silk is attached to this and shaped at the corners to fit over a cushion. The cover is lined predominantly in yellow satin weave silk while the blue shaped border is lined with yellow silk self-patterned in a small-scale scrolling design. The colour and style of this cushion cover are very reminiscent of enamelled porcelain of the Qianlong period, and it represents one of the few direct link-ups between the two media.
