Costume design for Coffee in the finaletto of the "Nederlanse Revue". The design depicts a full length female figure with right arm extended and left arm upraised. The figure wears a brown full length, tight fitting sleeveless split sheath dress. Over this is worn a sheer flared dress which is short and the front and long at the back. The low neckline is decoarted with large imitation coffee beans. The figure also wears long brown gloves; and silver shoes. The outfit is completed with an elaborate headdress imitating a silver coffee pot, and topped with brown plumes. To the left of the figure is a pencil drawing showing and alternative version of the headdress. Two fabric swatches are pinned to the upper left hand corner.

Object history | This Costume design by Anthony Holland is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 1996. The design was executed for the revue "Nederlanse Revue" at the Carré Theatre, Amsterdam, 1969. Historical significance: An example of a late 20th century costume design for a revue, an artform which is poorly represented in the Theatre Museum's design collection at present. |
