Place of origin

Sony was founded in 1946 by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita as the Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Company). The My First Sony range was Sony's first innovation targeted at the children’s market and its design was inspired by popular toys, the result was a product that perfectly combined fun and function. Made from a non-toxic plastic in primary colours, the design brought cutting-edge technology to children with an amplified microphone and tape deck. The name of the product highlighted the desire by the manufacturer to target consumers at an early age and build a loyal brand following.
