Object history | Purchased. Registered File number 1984/1876. According to the dealer from whom the Museum purchased this jacket and trousers, they were used for the kyogen drama. Albert J. Koop, in his Guide to the Japanese Textiles - Costume (London: HMSO, 1920 NAL Bibliographic Ref. No.: 25.B.130) pp.38-40 makes no mention of their being worn for dramatic performances but says they were used by certain courtiers. However, he does say that the trousers trailed twelve inches behind the feet which the Museum's pair do not. |
