Place of origin

A high quality dark blue satin hanging embroidered with coloured silks and gilt thread in long and short, satin and stem stitches with couched gilt thread, with an all-over design of exotic butterflies, many with phoenix-like plumage. A band of pale blue satin, embroidered with coloured silk, in satin, stem, long and short and Peking stitches, with a design of flowers and butterflies, is attached to the top of the panel.

The whole is bordered by a narrow band of dark blue-black silk embroidered with coloured silks and gilt thread in a design of flowers, in tones of white and blue, and auspicious emblems in gilt thread. A similar band divides the pale blue silk band from the principal panel; and two short bands further divide, vertically, the pale blue band.

Lined with a coarsely woven linen-coloured cotton.
