Object history | The vase comes from the collection of Col. Thomas Hendley, who served in the Indian Medical Service at the end of the 19th century. Though of modest interest as an example of Longquan ware, the piece's interest lies in its well-documented provenance in Indian, in its existence in the collection of a scholar whose article on the subject of early imports of ceramics into India forms a continuing contribution to the field, and its long presence in the V&A's collections, (many pieces were formerly loaned). |
