Sash of cotton and silver thread. The main field is woven in a herringbone pattern. The border, sewn on separately, is in plain weave with a pattern of stylised botehs, geometric and floral ornaments produced by impressing hot wires into metallic fabric. Fringe of silver tinsel.

Object history | According to the donor, this sash and the shawl IS 83-1988 were brought from India by her forebear Major William Sands (1750-90). He was in India until 1785 when he returned to England with Warren Hastings. |
