Gallery label
LENGTH OF PRINTED COTTON Cotton, block-printed Probably Rajasthan c. 1772 IS.64-1978 The quality of this almost 10 metre-long cloth suggests it may have been produced in Rajasthan, a region renowned for its block-printing. The fabric was probably intended to be made into a man’s robe like the one to the right. A hand-written inscription on the back indicates the cloth may date to as early as 1772.(01/08/2017)
