Part of a coverlet of embroidered cotton in coloured silks in chain stitch. The coverlet is made up of pieces cut out and reapplied. The remaining portion of the original coverlet shows part of an oval compartment, outlined by intertwined leaves, serrated on their inner sides, within which is a symmetrical arrangement of delicate wavy stems bearing tulips, carnations and other flowers.
The ground on which this pattern is worked is left plain, with the exception of a pair of tulips joined to chrysanthemums, one tulip on the left and the other on the right of the oval compartment. There is an upper narrow border of a continuous wavy floral stem, with a blue silk braid edging - above and below.
