A serpentine tree, with a bamboo growing beside it, bearing stylised peonies and lilies, a rose, and two fanciful flowers. The ground is filled with a vermicelli pattern and the tree grows from a formalised rockery. A united East India Company stamp appears in the upper left corner; elsewhere there is a letter B in a circle and two other undecipherable circular stamps.

painted and dyed cotton. The cloth is composed of two widths of cotton sewn together after painting. The light indigo blue has clearly been applied direct to the cloth by brush.
