Acquired by Caspar Purdon-Clarke during his purchasing trip to India in 1881 to 1882.

1883 South Kensington Museum Register entry: 'DRESS (Sari). Red cotton, with striped side and end borders in red, yellow, white, and brown silks. Hyderabad, Deccan. 19th cent. L. 24 ft. 6 in., W. 3 ft. 6 in. Bought, 18s. 7d. 2149.-1883. (I.S.).'
