Acquired by Caspar Purdon Clarke on his purchasing trip to India in 1881 to 1882.

1883 South Kensington Museum Register entry: 'DRESS PIECE (Sari). White cotton, with narrow side borders of gold rosettes in blue compartments, near the principal end, succeeded by blue and red stripes. The principal end has a broad and narrow plain gold band and a short fringe. Madura. 19th cent. L.24 ft. 7 in., W.3 ft. 7 in. Bought, £1 16s. 1732-1883 (IS).'
