Wayang Golek Puppet
1800–1900
The Wayang Golek puppets of Java are half figures, with the
lower part covered by a long cotton sarong. They are operated
from below by a central rod and by rods connected to the
puppeteer’s hands. The puppeteer directs the performance
and speaks all the roles. Behind him sit female singers and a
gamelan orchestra.
