The boar-headed avatar of Vishnu stands in militant pose resting his right foot on the back of a dog-looking animal, with his two upper hands holding attributes and the principal ones in the teaching gesture (mudra). He is bejewelled with necklaces, the longer one of which falls to his pot-belly. and he has a long garland encircling him. He stands upon a lotus base set against a wavy, striped back-slab framed with a border of beads and flame motifs rising to a pointed apex.

Object history
Presented to the India Museum in 1851 by Sir J. Bahadoor, according to that museum's inventory. This may refer to Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy, the Parsi-Indian industrialist and philanthropist who was knighted in 1842, and later made the first Indian baronet in 1858.
