This horse is made up from a series of thrown hollow cylinders with applied trappings decorated with impressed finger prints, It was produced by a Hindu potter for Bhil tribesmen to use in their open-air shrines and was included in the V&A's former Circulation Department's travelling exhibition, "The Arts of Village India" in the early 1970s. The process is described in Richard Blurton's article 'Tribal terracotta figurines in Gujarat: the technology of their production' (South Asian Studies, 1985, vol. 1, pp. 67-77).
