Costume doll representing the wife of a mahajan (merchant) of Varanasi. Unidentified armature and stuffing covered in cotton cloth. Skirt of yellow silk with ikat chevron design in white, trimmed with red satin edged with gota and metal strip, with floral meander design in couched metal-wrapped thread, domed sequins and glass beads. Bodice of woven yellow silk and silver strip in diamond pattern, trimmed with gota. Large shawl stitched to top of head and waist, of woven yellow and metal strip in a lattice design with brocaded medallions in metal-wrapped thread. Borders of dark green satin decorated with couched metal strip and domed dequins, and trimmed with folded and flat gota. One end trimmed with silver strip fringe Black cotton fabric hair edged with metal strip and a row of seed pearls. Earrings on both ears of gold-coloured metal with pendants of green and clear glass 'gems' with hanging seed pearls and green glass beads. Embroidered eyes, eyebrows, tilak and mouth. Necklace of coloured foil stuck to adhesive at neck. Bracelets of metal strip on black cotton fabric. Fingers and toes trimmed with red fabric.
