Costume design for Barbara Murray as Lorraine Sheldon in "The Man Who Came to Dinner". The design depicts a full length female figure with left hand on hip. The figure wears a tight fitting backless white evening dress with draped collar. The dress is gathered and pleated at the front over the hips and below the waist. The long sleeves are of a sheer white fabric. Silver sandals are worn on the feet, and a white turban with silver trimmings is worn on the head. A brown/grey background contained within a pencil border has been painted around the figure.

| Object history | This Costume design by Anthony Holland is part of an extensive collection of designs donated to the Theatre Museum by the artist in 1996. The design was executed for a production of Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's play "The Man Who Came to Dinner" at the Chichester Festival Theatre, July 30th, 1979. The production was directed by Patrick Lau. |
