Red cotton embroidered with two circular designs intended as crowns for caps. They are worked (couched) in gold-wrapped and silver-wrapped thread, red and black wool, gold sequins, silver spangles and beetle-wing cases. Both have a central flower motif, and one is surrounded by flower designs, the other by fish and flowers.

They are worked (couched) in gold-wrapped and silver-wrapped thread, red and black wool, gold sequins, silver spangles and beetle-wing cases. Both have a central flower motif, and one is surrounded by flower designs, the other by fish and flowers.

Object history
Transferred from India Museum 1879. Exhibited in Paris (1855) and probably in Dublin. 1880 Register Entry: [Case 14] '0382. CROWNS (two). For cap, embroidered with gold; Surat. 512'. India Museum slip book entry: 'Pair of Crown pieces for Caps / Surat / for Exhibition Paris 1855 / Purchased by Committee / Embroidered with Gold and SIlver / Dublin'.
