Object history
Acquired by Buckley in Amsterdam at Keezer on 12 July 1926 for £ 18.-
Production
A glass which can be attributed to the same engraver is in the Landes Museum Stuttgart (ex Ernesto Wolf Collection). It is also a facon de Venise goblet on a tall stem, a type of glass which is rarely used for engraving. It is engraved with the arms of Holland, an inscription: 'Hollandia', floral sprays and birds. The engraving shows many similarities with our glass, especially the high quality calligraphy; details and the quality of the lion and the birds. (See: Klesse & Mayer 1987, cat.nr. 164)
