Object history
Transferred from the India Museum in 1879. India Museum Slip book entry 8306: 'Muslin Colored Dot / Benares / 55 / See Sample Book of Fabrics'. NB. Benares is likely incorrect, based on comparison with like swatches in the first and second series of The Textile Manufactures of India (1866 and 1874), both of which give Dhaka as the origin.
