Brocaded silk sari in metal threads. With a field of purple shot silk with scattered gold brocaded botehs, denser nearer the decorative end and sparsely scattered in the remainder of the field. The pallu border is of gold brocade in a solid panel with borders of flowers and leaves brocaded in white, purple and blue silk. Borders have a lattice design in gold thread. The pallu has been woven and attached seperately.

Object history
The design of the pallu and borders suggests a Central India / Maharashtran origin as opposed to Benares as indicated on the label. The synthetic colours of the silk suggest a late 19th, early 20th century date.
