Small square of red cotton, lined with white cotton, embroidered with a circular design for the top of a cap. The outer ring of the design is made of metal-wrapped yellow thread couched over thick cotton cord. The inside of the circle is split into six triangular segments filled with metal-wrapped thread and sequins, divided by borders of metal-wrapped thread couched over cotton. The centre of the circle is filled with sequins with a small fragment of beetle-wing in the middle.

Transferred from the India Museum in 1879. 1880 Register entry: '9661. CAP TOP. Embroidered with gold and tinsel; Surat. 514'. Slip book entry 514: 'Circular Crown piece for Cap / Surat / for Paris Exh'n 1855 / purchased by Committee / Embroidered with Gold / Dublin'. Sent on loan to Nottingham in 1865.
