This plaque has been fashioned in white nephrite jade and then inset with a rhodolite garnet cabochon. The nephrite most probably originated from Xinjiang, and this material was used for artefacts made for the Mughal court from the early seventeenth century.

Physical description
An lightly polished oblong plaque carved in white nephrite jade as an eight-petalled flower. The back is convex with a central, oval channel that is interrupted in one place, and there are eight short, radiating grooves carved around the outer edge. The front is slightly concave with carved decoration defining the petals and there is a central, rhodolite garnet cabochon in a reflective, closed-back gold setting.
