Object history note

Initially thought to have been woven in Lahore, this Isfahan carpet was purchased in Paris in 1884, from F. Schutz.

Middle East, Carpet. Carpet, wool knotted pile on cotton foundation, 'Isfahani' or 'Shah `Abbas' design of lotus flowers, saz leaves, cloud bands, spotted pomegranates on red ground, with blue central medallion, probably Safavid Isfahan, Iran, 1600-1650
